Sally Stone is an award-winning author and nature photographer. Her photos have won several awards, notably Audubon’s Top 100, a Chicago Botanic Garden Special Mention, and a Nature Conservancy Finalist.
When Sally isn’t writing, taking pictures, or teaching, you can find her on long walks in nature. She loves to meditate, work in her native garden, raise and release butterflies, and connect with loved ones.
Sally’s love for children’s books began in childhood and never ended. For twenty-three years she worked with children and teachers, first in her classroom, then as a coach and university professor. Along the way, she helped hundreds of students write and publish their own books and stories.
Sally earned her master’s and a doctorate in education from National Louis University. Her doctoral dissertation focused on writing, in particular how children experience being seen when they write about their lives in writing workshop.
During her public teaching career, she won several awards including a State of Illinois Merit Award and a Christa MacAuliffe Science Teaching Award.
